Just showing up and being in the place where God says He is going to be is huge! (You can also LISTEN to the PODCAST for this article here.)
It was a BIG problem!
Moses had a BIG problem on his hands when the Israelites found themselves in the wilderness without water. Moses was the one God called to lead them out of Egypt through the Red Sea and into a wilderness where water was scarce.
Without water, the people were wondering and complaining among themselves if they had made the right decision to leave Egypt. They began to question Moses’ leadership and even worse, the God whom Moses served.
Moses didn’t know what to do. But then he sought the Lord.
† The Lord said to Moses, “Walk out in front of the people. Take your staff, the one you used when you struck the water of the Nile, and call some of the elders of Israel to join you. I will stand before you on the rock at Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come gushing out. Then the people will be able to drink.” So Moses struck the rock as he was told, and water gushed out as the elders looked on.
Exodus 17:5-6 NLT
God had the solution!
In His response, God did not tell Moses, “This is what I am going to do.” Rather, God told Moses where He was going to be.
Have you ever heard of the term ghosting? According to Webster’s Online Dictionary, “ghosting is the practice of ending a personal relationship with someone by suddenly and without explanation withdrawing from all communication.” While ghosting happens a lot in dating relationships, it also often occurs when an employer doesn’t follow-up with a job candidate after an interview and vice versa.
You and I both know, the potential upside of being in the right place at the right time can turn out to be a tremendous blessing and at times, life-changing. How much more are the possibilities when God has made it clear through His Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit, where He needs us to be each and every day of our lives?
Ghosting God is never a good thing. On the other hand, just showing up and being in the place where God says He is going to be is huge! The potential of it being a life-changing, life-defining moment can fill us with thoughts of wonder, excitement and miraculous possibilities!
God’s Miraculous Plan
For Moses, God’s miraculous plan for bringing forth water for the people to drink simply revealed three things: (1) Where God was going to be; (2) Where God needed Moses to be; and (3) What God wanted Moses to do.
At God’s command, Moses simply showed up and did the doing at the place where God said He was going to be. That’s where the miracle took place! That’s how the miracle unfolded!
Consider this:
Where is God telling you He is going to be today? Where do you need to be? And what is He asking you to do in that place?
God’s plan for your life today may not be as detailed as the one He gave to Moses, but let me encourage you today. Do what you can (give it your very best effort), with what you got (what He has given you to work with), wherever you may find yourself today.
If we just show up and be in the place where God says He will be, the potential impact it could have in our lives and in the lives of others could be nothing short of amazing!
Let’s PRAY!
Almighty God, I can’t even imagine what it would have been like to walk up that mountain and have a face to face encounter with You. For Moses, it was a grace-filled divine appointment. For us, I humbly pray for You to reveal your presence to us as we make ourselves present to you.
Grant unto us this day, the grace to discern your leading—where You are going to be, where You need us to be, and what you need us to do. Help us not to miss those divine appointments You have ordained for the well-being of our lives, the lives of others and for Your glory. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, I pray. Amen!
