Is there UNFINISHED business you still need to address? We tend to live a life of REGRET when we don’t finish what we have started.
As of the date of this writing, we are more than halfway through the year. How are you doing at staying on track with the goals you’ve set for yourself earlier in the year? Are there loose ends that still need to be tied up? Do you need to readjust routines or build better habits?
Not finishing something you really wanted to get done by now, especially something God birthed in your heart to do, often leads to feelings of inadequacy and regret.
The Unfinished Work God Births In Our Hearts
The Apostle Paul knew there was UNFINISHED work God had birthed within the hearts of the believers in Corinth. So he gave them some needed encouragement:
† Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed in the beginning be matched now by your giving. Give in proportion to what you have.
2 Corinthians 8:10-11 NLT
What is that ONE thing you really want to see yourself finish sooner than later? That ONE thing you know God has birthed in your heart to do?
Finishing up that ONE thing, especially when it’s something God has birthed in your heart, is not just a good thing to do, it’s good for you. And God can help!
God doesn’t do things half-way!
You might find yourself today in a tough situation. But you need to remember, it’s not the final chapter of your story. It’s a middle chapter. God’s redemption plan humanity and world is still on course to lead those who have put their faith and trust in Christ to a glorious ending.
God began the work He is doing in us right now with “the end” in mind. And in Christ, for all of us who have put their faith and trust in Him, He will finish what He started!
Paul revealed this truth about God when he shared with the believers in Philippi, . . .
† I am confident of this, that the One who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6 NRSV
Let me encourage you today:
Make time this week to pray, review and readjust your plans. Pray for God’s wisdom and grace for the next steps you need to take; in the right order, the right sequence. Take a second look at your systems and ask God what you could be doing better. Get some wise counsel. And then get it done!
You’ll avoid living a life of REGRET! You’ll not only feel good about making progress, generating momentum and finishing what God gave you to do, you’ll feel good about yourself. Moreover, in His wisdom, grace and strength you’ll not only get done what He’s birthed in your heart to do, you’ll bring Him glory!
Let’s PRAY!
Almighty God, who began the good work within us with “the end” already in mind. Grant unto us the grace, wisdom and strength to finish what You have birthed in our hearts to do. Help us to avoid living a life of regret, and to live with the assurance that You will be faithful to complete what You have already begun within us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen!
