How to Not Carry Things You Were Not Meant to Carry

Life can become much more discouraging and frustrating on the trail when you’re carrying things you were not meant to carry.

I’m talking about things that bring no intrinsic value while out in the wild, no business being in your backpack, but in fact, weigh you down, slow you down, and drain your energy. They can be physical items, but even more weightier can be things like fear, worry, and self-doubt. While at times we may garner the strength to carry those kinds of things, the truth is when we do we can’t go as far or last as long as we would like. And knowing we could be doing better than we actually are doing leads to even more frustration.

The good news is that life doesn’t have to stay that way! God can change all that, breathe new life, and bring renewal into your being. He is The Expert and Authority when it comes to carrying heavy burdens.

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

Meet the Lord at the trailhead today. Walk with Him and let Him carry the heavy things that have been making you tired and weary. When you do your load is going to be much lighter because you’re going to be carrying only those things the Lord would have you carry while trusting Him with the heavier things. You’ll gain a renewed sense of strength, energy and hope because you’ll be hiking with the One who is the source of it all.
