They were just ordinary people whose lives God had chosen to work in and through. Is that possible?
A healing took place. A man lame from birth was healed through faith in the name of Jesus. This miracle enabled him for the first time in his life, to stand up and walk, leap for joy and praise God like he has never done before!
But it caused a raucous among the religious leaders who opposed the followers of Christ. Peter and John were arrested and brought before the Sanhedrin of religious priests and elders. However, Peter by the power of the Holy Spirit saw it as a divine appointment as he began to testify with boldness about WHO was actually responsible for the lame man’s miracle—Jesus Christ!
In fact, the boldness of both Peter and John is what captured the Sanhedrin’s attention the most. They were amazed because Peter and John were just ordinary individuals with no special training in the Scriptures. Yet, one thing about them stood out—they were men who had been with Jesus.
For Peter and John, Jesus wasn’t a once a year, once a month, or even a once a week event or encounter. Jesus was the One they traveled with in their everyday lives; the One who loved them, taught them, who was the Word to them, and who demonstrated God’s majestic sovereignty over all things in heaven and on earth.
We do well to make it a part of our everyday lives, our regular routine, to spend time with Jesus—in His presence and in His Word. Just learning HOW to be with Jesus can be life-altering, turning the mundane and ordinary into something amazing and extra-ordinary.
When this becomes a part of who we are, we open the door for God to show up in extra-ordinary ways to work in and through our lives, the lives of those we travel with, as well as those you WILL meet through the divine appointments God has ordained for you in your journey!
“The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.”
